What's Included in an ADHD Evaluation in Kansas city

my comprehensive ADHD evaluations look at the whole picture
ADHD evaluation
Clinical Interview & Developmental History

We start by understanding your child's history from pregnancy through today - developmental milestones, family history, medical background, and what daily life looks like now.

Rating Scales from Multiple Perspectives

ADHD looks different across settings. We gather input from parents, teachers, and (when appropriate) your child to see patterns across home, school, and social situations.

Cognitive & Achievement Testing

We assess IQ, memory, processing speed, and academic skills to understand learning strengths—and rule out learning disabilities that can mimic ADHD.

Executive Functioning Assessment

We evaluate planning, organization, impulse control, emotional regulation, and different types of attention—so we know exactly how ADHD affects your child’s functioning.

Behavioral
Observations

Throughout testing, we observe how your child approaches tasks, responds to challenges, manages frustration, and uses strategies—all crucial information for understanding their ADHD profile.

Differential
Diagnosis

We rule out other conditions that can look like ADHD, such as anxiety, autism traits, learning disorders, sleep issues, or trauma.

and can connect you with trusted prescribers if appropriate.
  • What accommodations does my child need at school?Specific recommendations for IEP or 504 plans, plus strategies teachers can implement immediately.

Why families trust

Dr. Tish Taylor

For their Child's ADHD Evaluation in Kansas City

With over 25 years of experience specializing in childhood ADHD, Dr. Tish has evaluated thousands of children and understands that ADHD doesn’t look the same in every child—or respond to the same strategies. Her evaluations are trusted by school districts across the Kansas City area, including Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission, and Olathe, because they’re comprehensive, individualized, and actionable. She doesn’t rely on checklists; she takes time to understand your child’s unique brain, strengths, and challenges. Along the way, she equips parents with the knowledge they need, explaining how ADHD works, what helps, and how to advocate effectively. Because ADHD rarely travels alone, she also assesses for related concerns like anxiety, learning differences, and executive function struggles to give you the full picture. Most importantly, you’ll leave with clear answers and strategies you can use right away, in school, at home, and in daily life.

How is this different from my pediatrician's ADHD screening?

Pediatricians often use brief rating scales to determine if ADHD is likely. Our comprehensive psychological evaluation includes:

  • Cognitive testing
  • Executive function assessment
  • Attention/focus measures
  • Differential diagnosis to rule out anxiety, depression, etc.
  • Detailed recommendations for school and home

Many pediatricians require a comprehensive evaluation before prescribing medication or diagnosing ADHD.

Will testing stress my child out?

Most kids find testing interesting, not stressful! We use age-appropriate activities that feel more like games or puzzles. We take breaks and adjust based on your child's needs. Kids often leave saying,
"That was fun!"

Can you test for ADHD and learning disabilities at the same time?

Yes! In fact, we recommend comprehensive testing because ADHD and learning disabilities often co-occur. About 30-50% of children with ADHD also have a learning disability.

Do you prescribe ADHD medication?

No, as a psychologist, Dr. Tish doesn't prescribe medication. However, our evaluation provides the documentation needed for your pediatrician or psychiatrist to make informed medication decisions. We can also provide referrals to trusted prescribers.

Will this help my child get a 504 plan or IEP?

Yes. Our evaluations meet the diagnostic requirements for both 504 plans and IEP eligibility (under "Other Health Impairment"). We provide specific accommodation recommendations and can attend school meetings.
